For Joss, materiality is more than an aesthetic decision—it’s an emotional and sensory experience. “The way materials feel and behave can define the identity of a space,” he explains. Timber, in particular, plays a key role in creating warmth and continuity, and veneer provides the precision and versatility required to achieve this vision.
In Casa Halcyon, Eveneer Raw ALPI Xilo Planked White timber veneer was selected to integrate with the home’s architecture. Used across joinery and wall panelling, the veneer contributes to a cohesive and natural interior.
Beyond the kitchen joinery, Studiojos has embraced veneer in more unexpected applications, including a custom-designed bed head that serves as a visual anchor within the main bedroom. “Veneer’s versatility allows us to create unique textures and contrasts that challenge conventional design norms,” Joss notes.
Timber veneer offers a resource-efficient alternative to solid timber without compromising on visual impact. “We’ve always valued the natural beauty of timber, but working with veneer allows us to achieve the look of solid wood while minimising waste,” says Knight, adding, “Elton Group stands out to us because of its consistent quality, sustainability efforts, and the diversity of finishes it offers. Its commitment to both beauty and performance aligns perfectly with our philosophy of creating spaces that are both meaningful and environmentally responsible.” For Studiojos, the precision of veneer also enables consistency in grain and tone that ensures a refined aesthetic across diversity of surfaces and spaces.
By incorporating Eveneer throughout Casa Halcyon, Studiojos has crafted an interior that is understated yet deeply engaging. Joss confirming that: “Timber has such a unique ability to transform a space, with its warmth and timeless appeal. We often choose materials that age gracefully and have a sense of permanence. We also look at how different materials interact—how textures can complement or contrast, and how they can create an atmosphere of subtle luxury.”
The result is a home that embodies the studio’s philosophy—one that balances simplicity with rich materiality, and innovation with timelessness.
